Cersei and Margaery in prison and Daenerys in the desert for the majority of this season of Game of Thrones, there haven’t been many fashion statements to swoon over of late. But that all changed in last night’s explosive finale.
In the action-packed The Wind of Winter there was wildfire carnage among many other plot-line shockers. Winter arrived at last, Arya finally got her revenge, Jon Snow was crowned king of The North and Queen Cersei unexpectedly took the Iron Throne – wearing an ornate, high neck gown that set social media alight.
Perhaps thinking about that old mantra dress for the job you want, not the job you’ve got, Cersei’s leather dress was the total embodiment of one woman’s triumph over adversity; the culmination of years of hard work and covert plotting. Gone were the hessian sack dresses she’s been in all season; in their place the intricate armoured leather, which told the world she was a fighter. The crystal epaulettes on her shoulders were shaped like roaring lions – the Lannister sigil. Her chains which connected her armouring harked back to her prison chains, showing she was free from the shackles which had once put her at the mercy of her captors.
